Game-O-Matic

Game-O-Matic converts a graph of nouns and verbs (cat chases dog, dog watches bird) into an endless variety of games in many arcade genres. The games have generated instructions and can be customized with your own art and text. Games can then be shared with a link.

Developed by UCSC Expressive Intelligence Studio and Georgia Tech Digital Media. Funded by Knight News Challenge. Advising professors Michael Mateas and Ian Bogost.

Bryan Blackford and Mike Treanor at UCSC developed the AI game designer and natural language processing systems. We published this paper on the subject at FDG 2012: Game-o-matic: Generating videogames that represent ideas

Developed using FlashDevelop, ActionScript, PushButton Engine, PHP, Drupal.

Example game: Heart Kittens
